5 Top Social Media Challenges and How To Overcome Them - 2025

Social Media seems so easy in the eyes of viewers, but when you take on platforms to grow a business, it suddenly doesn't seem so easy.

Does that mean you should shy away from using it to grow your brand?

While it's tempting to do so, it should be the last thing you do. Understanding the challenges that come with social media will be a game-changer for you and your business.

Sign that says "Whatever it Takes."

That's why I'm presenting you with the 5 top social media challenges and how you can overcome them:

  1. Challenge: Managing all your social media platforms

If you're on multiple platforms to grow your brand, you might find that it's becoming increasingly overwhelming to manage all of them at once.

It's so easy to get shiny object syndrome and have the desire to be everywhere at once, but it can do more damage than good.

Keeping up with analytics, impressions, competitors, hashtags, the best times to post on multiple platforms, (the list goes on) can be too much for one person to take on.

Even with social media tools like Hootsuite or Sprout Social, you might find that even creating the content is a beast you can't tame.

As a Social Media Manager, I know the overwhelming feeling of keeping up with multiple platforms at once.

  • Solution: Narrow down your platforms to 1-2 (for now)

Unless you have someone marketing for you, narrowing down your social media marketing to 1-2 platforms will give you more time to become an expert on that platform.

You can also nurture your audience better so you can spend more time engaging and monitoring what your audience needs from you.

The idea is to become an expert on one and move on to the next. Once you have each platform down and have gained a substantial following, you might be able to handle another platform.

2. Challenge: Finding time to post

If you're busy running a business full-time and living your personal life outside of that, you might find it hard to post.

Time is critical when it comes to running a business, and one thing that will likely be the LAST thing we focus on is social media marketing.

Some might think posting once a week is enough, but it truly isn't.

Posting consistently - at least three days a week - is just the bare minimum you should be posting.

But what about the time?

Different size clocks hanging on a wall.

To post consistently, you have to have the time, right?

I get it. It seems there is hardly ever any time.

  • Solution: Carve out 1 hour a week to strategize, create content, and schedule everything to post

You want to find a scheduling tool like Loomly to help ensure that posts are getting on your page regularly. Some platforms, such as LinkedIn, have their own scheduler.

Many scheduling tools can let you post months out in advance. This is especially helpful if you have an upcoming vacation or commitment.

Once you get into a habit of doing this, it will make your life so much easier.

3. Challenge: Running out of content post ideas.

No one wants to get to this point - feeling stuck because you can't think of anything to post. When you browse your competitor's posts, it seems like their content ideas are endless.

Listen, it happens to the best of us. When you're feeling the writer's block, here are some ways to solve it:

  • Solution(s): Take some of your competitor's content and tweak it to make it your own.

As they say, ‘Stand on the shoulders of giants.” We don't know it all, but we can learn and share it with the world.

Computer, notebook with a pen, and a coffee mug on a desk.

Repurpose your content.

Take a look back at content from months ago and repurpose it, especially some of your more popular posts:

  • Did you have a blog that had a bunch of reshares? Turn it into a video.

  • Update a graphic by switching out some colors and make it into a carousel.

  • Take short-form content and make it into a blog.

Utilize AI.

AI can be super useful when you're out of ideas to post.

Of course, you don't want to take everything directly from AI and paste it into your content, but it truly helps build creativity and saves you time so you're not using most of your hour during the week thinking of something to write.

4. Challenge: Gaining followers

Many people say that it's not about the followers, and I totally agree that it's not.

However, you have to understand the difference between gaining followers just to say you have a huge following, and attracting followers because you know that your content is worth following and you're continuously providing valuable content.

You don't want spammy bots or followers who just want to sell you something; you want a community that is going to engage with you.

How do you do this the right way:

  • Solution: Social selling

You connect with your target customer first and don't want to wait for someone to follow you.

Once they follow back, engage with them. If you want to grow your following, be sure to nurture your audience. Depending on the platform, you can do the following:

  • Tag them and personally thank them for following.

  • Check out their page and engage with them letting them know you appreciated something you noticed on their page. Show genuine interest. If your follower shows you took time out to welcome them, you're already standing out above the rest.

  • Carve out time (20 minutes every other day) during the week to engage with others.

Do these things while posting high-quality content consistently and watch your audience flourish.

Here's the last social media challenge that many businesses face:

5. Challenge: Creating the right visuals that attract your buyer

Finding the right content that inspires your buyer and increases the likelihood of engagement, lead generation, and potential sales can be tricky.

That’s why it’s important to know your buyer’s persona and fully understand their pain points, so you know how to create content that attracts them.

We already talked about time being a crucial factor in any business, but marketing is also a crucial factor. When you post without a foundation or strategy, you're less likely to see an ROI (return on investment).

What to do?

  • Solution: Test, test, test

According to Hubspot’s article - The Ultimate Guide to Social Testing:

“Social media testing is important because it provides data-driven insights about your social media marketing activities. It allows you to analyze how different variables, like photo and video, affect performance.”

What worked last week, might not be popular this week.  It's okay to repeat similar content if it gained a lot of likes and engagement.

It's important to post a mixed bag of content to see what resonates with your audience. Be sure to stay on top of changes on the platform because knowing when to pivot is a huge aspect to social media marketing.

There's no doubt that there are so many challenges when it comes to social media, but there are also solutions.

Take these into consideration when creating content and your marketing channel should see growth.

I hope you found these helpful.
